List of courses relevant to Light and Materials

photo-of-woman-writing-on-blackboard

We ask for your help to compile a list of all courses relevant to education within our profile area. Please send names and course codes of courses and/or programs you think can be relevant for the area of Light and Materials, undergraduate to PhD and commissioned courses. We would also like you to comment on why you believe the course fits on the list/ the profile area and what the students learn in the course.

The aim of the final list is to make an inventory and to expose what courses already exist within the area of Light and Materials, and from there decide what steps need to be taken next. Please send your input to Tönu Pullerits and Mirja Carlsson Möller.

At the below link you can find an updated list of courses that was included in the original application to become profile area. The purpose of this list was to show that there are already a bulk of courses that are of interest to the profile area. The list is regularly updated as we receive input on it. If you have comments on any of the courses listed here (if it fits or not and why), we’d be happy if you’d like to share them with us.

Education in Light & Materials – a first step

Within the topics of our profile area there is already today a strong connection and exchange between research and education, with many researchers involved in teaching courses directly related to light and materials.

To explore the possibilities to integrate and coordinate education initiatives within the profile area Light & Materials, representatives from many fields of education met at a workshop last week. The participants discussed courses and programs that are relevant for students in Light & Materials, ways for how these can be coordinated, how students can be attracted and the role of the Profile area in education initiatives.

The next step is to make an inventory of courses and programs that are relevant for education in Light & Materials and to find out how they relate to each other. The Profile area will investigate how to best promote and highlight these courses and education programs. This workshop was a first step to examining possibilities and potential for education within Light & Materials, it will be followed up by further discussions and activities to maximise the potential for future generations within our fields.

About Light & Materials

Two parallel pillars through three platforms

Light and Materials is one of five profile areas at Lund University.

Light and Materials will harness the recent dramatic progress in our ability to measure and control light and materials. This substantially improves our understanding of the natural world, and enables new technological developments that addresses societal challenges in the fields of health, energy and environment.

Expertise and research infrastructure available in NanoLund, Lund Laser Centre (LLC) and MAX IV allows scientists to gain insights into light-induced processes and functionalities of materials that were previously impossible to study.
